Get ready to close up your pie-holes, xenomorph fans. Alien: Covenant, the latest installment of the Alien franchise, has released its first trailer, and it promises to bring us back to the horror of the original.
The press teaser plot is as follows: The crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but it is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
With Ridley Scott directing a cast that includes Katherine Waterson, James Franco, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, and Michael Fassbender returning as the awe-struck android, David, Alien: Covenant is set to continue the prequel storyline that began with the film, Prometheus. Will we learn more about The engineers? Is humanity a biological weapon itself, or merely the incubators of the real weapon, the xenomorphs?
The trailer doesn’t answer these questions, but it does give us a glimpse into what the film can be. The science fiction environments that Ridley Scott is known for are featured in the trailer, as well as the darkly inquisitive and loyal David. It also seems that xenomorphs may not be the belly-busters that we’ve learned to expect from the previous films.
While the casting of a comedic elements like Danny McBride and James Franco may be questionable, Paul Reiser probably seemed like an odd choice for Aliens, so the casting shouldn’t be a “make or break” addition when contemplating whether or not the film is worth a viewing.
Alien: Covenant is set to be released May 19th, 2017.
