Apocalypse Kiss / Potent Media

Normally when I introduce the latest podcast at The Critics Den, I give the film / show / album / book / self-deprecating performance art piece featuring a hot dog and string a proper preview.

With Apocalypse Kiss, I saw the film before I got an interview with the film’s director, Christian Grillo. Suffice to say, I enjoyed the movie that much. You can read all about my thoughts on Apocalypse Kiss here.

But that doesn’t mean the interview covers the same ground as the review. Christian Grillo called in to our podcast with his wife, Carmela Hayslett (who played Katia), to discuss the things about Apocalypse Kiss that only a director and his helpful wife could. Things such as:

  • What influenced such a merging of science fiction and film noir?
  • How did you decide to cast Lloyd Kaufman in the role of the President?
  • How did you decide to cast Michael Berryman in the role of David Horn, corporate superpower of Earth?
  • Why was there a penis shot? For the love of all that is sacred, why?!

We tackled those questions and more in the latest episode of the Critics Den podcast.

Apocalypse Kiss is slated for release on April 8th.
